Portuguese esports organisation Betclic Apogee has launched Gamers 4 the Planet, a new platform designed to forecast the environmental impact of the esports industry and decrease gamers’ carbon footprint.

Alongside the launch of the platform, the organisation has unveiled a documentary called Restart the Game that will premiere today.

Directed by João Pedro Moreira, the documentary is said to show ‘another side’ of the esports organisation’s activism as well as shed a light on the gaming industry’s huge carbon footprint. The original soundtrack for the documentary is created by DJ Riot.

Founded in 2017, Betclic Apogee is an esports organisation that competes primarily in the FIFA scene. The organisation is the first esports team to have Carbon Neutral certification and last year launched a ‘Carbon Neutral Collective’ as well as teaming up with Esports Insider.

According to a release, the main pillars of Betclic Apogee’s initiative are to calculate the environmental impact of gaming and esports, as well as decrease the carbon footprint. Moreover, the project aims to share experiences and support regeneration actions.

In order to support the Gamers 4 the Planet platform, professional esports teams will gain access to an exclusive app that helps keep track of the individual’s carbon footprint in a certain time frame. Moreover, there will also be a way to view a collective carbon footprint. Alongside  Betclic Apogee, notable organisations such as FNATIC and OG Esports have joined the platform. Additionally, Esports Insider will also take part in the initiative.

Speaking about the documentary, Moreira stated: “In order to have more impact in the Gaming community, the film’s structure is similar to that of a computer game”. He also expressed that this decision was “one of the biggest challenges of the project.”

Betclic Apogee highlighted that due to technological advances, energy consumption associated with gaming has increased. One example provided is the transition from 1080p to 4K resolution, which has caused a 64% increase in energy consumption, according to the organisation.

As gamblers ourselves, we know which factors matter most to you, so we follow a best-in-class methodology to test each one with no stone unturned. Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
