After retiring twice in 2023, Yiliang ‘Doublelift’ Peng is making a return to the professional League of Legends scene with a brand-new team.
Doublelift will be joined by a mix of streamers and retired players, including Ashkan ‘TF Blade’ Homayouni, Mingyi ‘Spica’ Lu, Eugene ‘Pobelter’ Park, and Vincent ‘Biofrost’ Wang.
The roster, first reported by Sheep Esports journalist LCS Eevee, will compete in the 2025 North American Challengers League (NACL) qualifiers.
The team may not have a dedicated coach, according to the American bot laner. Instead, they plan to invite guest coaches from time to time, such as William ‘Meteos’ Hartman or Nick ‘LS’ De Cesare.
While discussing the team’s goals regarding League of The Americas (LTA) qualification on stream, Doublelift made it clear that he is “not interested at all in competing or playing seriously.”
“I hope you can appreciate that I’m being completely direct here — I have no interest in living the lifestyle of a pro player,” he said. “Leena (Doublelift’s partner) and I are going to get married; we’re going to have kids. I have other hobbies and interests outside of League of Legends. I don’t want to dedicate my life to playing this game.”
Doublelift is yet to decide the team’s name and in addition to this, he also has several interesting content plans for the team that he will reveal shortly. In the meantime, he will be submitting the roster for the 2025 North American Challengers League (NACL).
All of their NACL Open Qualifier scrims will be streamed live for the next two weeks, starting on February 13th against Supernova. This is a similar method that has been utilised by Europe’s Los Ratones, a team founded by popular streamer Marc Robert ‘Caedrel’ Lamont.
Throughout his decade-long competitive career, Doublelift was an integral part of major organisations such as Team Liquid, Team SoloMid (TSM) and 100 Thieves. In total, he lifted the League Championship Series (LCS) and NA LCS trophy a total of eight times.
