FlyQuest has announced that it will broadcast League of Legends (LoL) scrims versus its fellow LTA North competitor Cloud9.
According to the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), the practice matches between the two North American esports teams will take place later today (February 4th) at 8.45 PM GMT / 2:45 PM EST on FlyQuest’s Twitch channel.
FlyQuest also confirmed that anyone will be allowed to co-stream the scrims as long as they include the organisation’s name in the title of their co-stream.
The idea of streaming FlyQuest’s scrims was first brought up by the team’s top laner Gabriël ‘Bwipo’ Rau during a post-match interview in the LTA North, League of Legends’ North American esports conference. Following a dominant victory over fellow contestant Shopify Rebellion, Bwipo shared that it would benefit the entire league if teams were able to watch FlyQuest’s scrims.
“We want to show the rest of the league and our fans what makes us winners. […] I want to level up the level of the region as a whole,” said Bwipo.
“To me, revealing what we do will make everyone else better, and therefore, we will level up the whole region and have better performances…”
The upcoming scrims broadcast was made possible following a temporary policy change by Riot Games.
On February 2nd, LTA’s Commissioner Mark Zimmerman revealed that teams will be allowed to stream scrims against fellow LTA competitors during the league’s first split. He emphasised that this was a temporary policy to leave room for feedback and potential adjustments.
FlyQuest and Cloud9 are not the first League of Legends rosters to stream practice matches. EMEA team Los Ratones, founded by streamer MarcRobert ‘Caedrel’ Lamont, has made authentic behind-the-scenes content, such as scrims, that has become a cornerstone of its esports journey.
Bwipo also admitted to being heavily inspired by the NLC contestant: “It’s their idea. We stole it. […] We took the idea from them. I just personally feel like it’s a great way to engage the fans, engage everyone and just, in general, do better.”
FlyQuest in 2025
FlyQuest has yet to qualify for the first LTA Cross-Conference tournament of the season, with the team needing to defeat Dignitas in the lower bracket on February 10th to advance.
Kicking off on February 15th, the LTA 2025 Cross Conference will see the top four teams of the LTA North and South compete. The competition will crown the inaugural LTA champion, with the representative securing Americas’ First Stand slot.
Interestingly, it was Cloud9 who pushed FlyQuest into the lower bracket. The rival organisation has already qualified for Cross-Conference. Cloud9 placed second in the LTA North, only bested by 100 Thieves.
Starting his career in the EMEA region, Bwipo joined FlyQuest in November 2023. At the organisation, the Belgian athlete helped secure FlyQuest’s first LCS title, winning the Summer 2024 split, the last split under the LCS moniker.
