Electronic Arts (EA) has announced that the ALGS Midseason Playoffs will take place at the 2025 Esports World Cup.
The second event of the 2025 Apex Legends season marks the first time its esports circuit will hold an event in the Middle East.
According to a blog post, the event will see 40 teams from across the world compete for a share of a $2m (~£1.5m) prize pool, one of the largest amounts of prize money provided for an Apex Legends esports event.
The event will take place from July 10th to 14th, 2025 as part of the multi-title event taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, throughout July and August.
For 2025, the Midseason Playoffs location sees the ALGS be directly integrated into the Esports World Cup calendar. The 2024 edition of the Esports World Cup saw Apex Legends hold an event separate from the ALGS.
ALGS Midseason Playoffs Format Explained
Introduced as part of Apex Legends’ new 2025 esports format, the ALGS Midseason Playoffs will feature 40 teams. Each team will be drawn into two groups of 20.
The groups will play ten matches, with the top seven from each earning direct qualification to the Match Point finals.
Teams that place between eighth and 17th in the group stage will compete in the Last-Chance Semifinals, while those ranked 18th to 20th are eliminated from the tournament.
The Last-Chance Semifinal sees teams play another ten-match series with the top six advancing to the Match Point Finals. The remaining teams are then eliminated.
The top 20 teams from the Group Stage and Last-Chance Semifinal will then compete in the Match Point Final to determine the eventual winner.
In addition to the multi-million-dollar prize pool, teams competing at the event will also have a chance to earn Championship Points which determine which teams qualify for the season-ending ALGS Championship.
Apex Legends was one of the first titles to be confirmed for the 2025 Esports World Cup after it was announced the battle royale would feature in December 2024.
The 2024 edition of the tournament was won by European esports organisation Alliance, while recent ALGS Open winners Team Falcons finished in the runners-up spot.
