Valve has adjusted the Active Duty map pool used in competitive Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) matches, replacing Anubis with Overpass.
The map pool change commences alongside the launch of Premier Season Three, CS2’s in-game competitive mode.
The return of Overpass is the first change to the CS2 map pool since the start of the 2025 season where Valve replaced Vertigo with a refreshed iteration of Train.
Overpass was a mainstay of the map pool during the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) era, often featuring in the matches of several tournaments. The map was initially removed from the map pool in April 2024, following the return of Dust 2.
The adjustment marks the first time Anubis has been pulled from Active Duty since its addition in November 2022.
Alongside the return of Overpass, Valve has also made changes to the CT economy and its arsenal of weaponry and utility. Defenders will now receive a shared team award that rewards additional income for eliminating an attacker during a round.
Elsewhere, the spread of the incendiary grenade has been increased, and the MP9 will have ‘increased recoil magnitude and substantially reduced jumping accuracy’.
The final change in the update enables players to ‘revoke all Counter-Strike item trades from the last seven days’ with the aim to deter scammers.
When Does Overpass Return To Esports?
With Overpass back in the Active Duty map pool, attention turns to when the map will reappear in top-tier international competitions. The next S-tier event is IEM Cologne, taking place from July 23rd to August 3rd, 2025, and is one of the first significant tournaments following the BLAST.tv Austin Major.
ESL FACEIT Group, the event’s organiser, has yet to reveal if Overpass will feature as part of its map pool. Considering the short amount of time for teams to practice on the map, there’s every chance Anubis will remain.
