Gen.G beat Hanwha Life Esports again to go two from two at Worlds 2026

Gen.G have won both of their Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage games, the second against the reigning Mid-Season Invitational champions. A third win would put the reigning LCK champions into the Knockout Stage.

The Round 2 meeting started at 23:10 UK time on Saturday 24 October. Gen.G finished with a 22-7 kill lead and were about 16,000 gold ahead when Hanwha Life’s Nexus fell, GosuGamers reported.

As the higher seed, Gen.G had first pick in the draft. Hanwha Life chose to play on the blue side. British caster Medic was among the English-language commentators, alongside Canada’s Jatt.

The result follows Gen.G’s Round 1 win over Invictus Gaming. Hanwha Life had opened by beating Top Esports.

Gen.G extend their recent grip on Hanwha Life

The LCK sent Hanwha Life to Worlds as its second seed. Their recent record against Gen.G is poor.

Gen.G beat them 3-1 in the LCK Grand Final on 13 September. That gave Gen.G a seventh LCK title, and Ruler was named Finals MVP. Hanwha Life also lost 1-3 on 5 September, 0-2 on 13 August and 1-2 on 5 August in LCK play. Their only win in that run of meetings was a 2-1 at the KeSPA Cup on 10 August.

The Elo power rankings point the same way. Gen.G are rank 4 on a rating of 1860, with a 117-30 record. Hanwha Life are rank 12 on 1800, with a 112-47 record.

Fnatic are absent from the event. Their chances of reaching Worlds ended with a 1-2 defeat to GIANTX in the LEC Summer regular season on 30 August.

One more win sends Gen.G into the Knockout Stage

The Swiss Stage has 16 teams playing five rounds. Three wins put a team through to the Knockout Stage, and three losses knock it out. Matches that decide whether a team advances or goes out are best-of-three with Fearless Draft. Every other Swiss match is a single game.

Gen.G’s next match will therefore be a best-of-three. LYON reached 2-0 by beating Karmine Corp in Round 2. Movistar KOI play Dplus KIA in the other 2-0 match. In Round 2, T1 lost to Dplus KIA, and Movistar KOI beat CTBC Flying Oyster.

Hanwha Life must regroup quickly. Invictus Gaming, who beat Team Secret Whales in Round 2, meet them at 12:00 CDT on Sunday.

The Swiss Stage runs until 31 October, and the Knockout Stage from 3 to 14 November. The final is on Saturday 14 November in Brooklyn. The prize pool is US$5 million, with US$1 million going to the champion.

Gen.G’s next step comes first. They meet LYON on Sunday 25 October at 17:00 CDT.
